DTM 1/20 2018 Ferrari SF71H Build Part 2 - Carbon Fibre Decal Progress
DTM (Model Factory Hiro) 1/20 Multi-Media kit.
Now that all of my old WIP posts have been transferred to this new site, I’ll start posting more frequent, bite-sized WIP updates from now on.
This update revolves around the application of carbon fibre decals for the SF71H.
I decided to begin with the sidepods, as I believed this would be the most difficult area of the build to template and decal. I use Scale Motorsport carbon fibre water slide decals (most of the time I use 1/24 scale as it’s more accurate and subtle than 1/20 scale in my opinion) as it is incredibly forgiving to put into place, and using hairdryer and Micro Sol will conform to pretty much any surface, no matter how complex. I would define SF71H sidepods as “complex”.
It took a few hours for the areas shown above, and I’m very satisfied with how it turned out despite not being 100% perfectly neat. Plus, these areas will actually be covered for the most part by the sidepod airflow conditioners later.
The next area to tackle is the front wing. The front wing consists of some 30+ individual pieces of carbon fibre to template and apply. I’m taking it slow. Click the images to enlarge.
In the next update I’ll finish the CF decals for the remaining front wing parts, and perhaps start on sponsor decals.
